Join us at Family Fun Night
Your Oliveira Elementary PTA hosts several Family Fun Nights throughout the school year (see the Events Calendar for dates). We have three movie and board game nights, a dance, reading night, and new for 2016-2017 a multicultural celebration of the diversity of Oliveira Elementary. Events start at 6pm and last for several hours. Please plan to attend the event with your children, as this is also an opportunity for you to interact with their friends and the rest of the Oliveira Elementary community.
New for this year we will be supporting Refugee Hopebox. Please bring donations to the fun nights and we will be sending your donations to be packed and delivered to refugees in need. From the website:
Our Refugee Hope Box allows you to pack a box with supplies for a refugee child or family and send to our warehouse, where volunteers will transfer the contents to a backpack and hand deliver to a refugee child or family.
Some examples of highly recommended donations:
- Child or Adult poncho
- 1st aid kit
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Hand sanitizer
The full list is available from the website Refugee Hopebox.
We get together three times a year to enjoy a movie together. Pizza, soda, and popcorn are $1 each, with unlimited popcorn refills while supplies last.
Board Game Night
New for 2016-2017, we present board game night! Come join us for pizza and juice, $1 each, and play games together. Board game night is an opportunity to meet your child’s friends and their parents. Games such as Uno, Sorry, Trouble, Operation, and more will be available.
Music and dancing. We will provide light refreshment and a projector running the wildly popular Just Dance game for kids to follow on the screen.
We celebrate Dr. Suess’s birthday with Reading Night, where we invite guests from the community to read books to our children. Every student who attends will receive a free book.
Also new for 2016-2017, we want to celebrate the diversity at Oliveira Elementary! Can you share with us some special details about your culture? Share your dress, food, and celebrations with us this year. There will be:
- Potluck – traditional dishes, fun snacks, desserts, and local produce
- Sharing tables – pictures, favorite landmarks, favorite games/activities, languages, and clothing
- Global map and stickers – Oliveira families will put up stickers for where they have lived and where their parents/beyond have lived.
Please contact me if you can help!
